A touring caravan has no number plate, only a 17 character CRiS number. The only register of theft, finance and write off for caravans is CRiS, which sells its own check for £17.95 and publishes no trade terms, no API and no reseller price. Every guide, from the AA and the RAC to the two clubs and the police, points buyers to CRiS. No other UK site sells a caravan history check.
CRiS publishes that the number is 17 characters and what its parts are, not where each part sits. So the reading of a number on this site is labelled as the industry describes it, and never as something CRiS confirmed.
A motorhome carries a DVLA registration plate, so the ordinary vehicle history checks cover it. The wholesale data is on open sale to businesses at about £2 a check, and the retail checks sell at £4 to £20 next to the adverts. Finance, stolen, write off, keeper changes and mileage all come back by number plate. The MOT history is free at gov.uk.
One catch: a van conversion is only a motor caravan on the V5C if DVLA accepted the change. Otherwise it checks as a van. The data is the same either way.
No police force, no insurer and no industry body publishes a national annual count of caravan thefts. What exists: one insurer said 11 percent of its settled caravan claims in 2024 were theft, with an average claim of £18,866. A police force said 23 percent of stolen caravans were recovered between 2019 and 2022. The police national computer is not open to private companies, and the club security registers cannot be searched by the public.
Neither CRiS nor the V5C is proof of ownership. Both record the keeper. There is no legal register of title for a caravan or a motorhome. The chain of bills of sale is the proof, and a gap in that chain is the thing to worry about.
The register has to be built from the people who hold the data: owners, dealers, finance houses, insurers, storage sites, marking companies and police. That is what this site is. This register is new and grows as owners and providers add to it. Until each of them is feeding it, a report says so, in words, in every section where the data does not yet exist here, and sends the buyer to CRiS or to a vehicle check for the rest.
